ArtsCase Talk – Julien Missaire

Julien Missaire  has always loved drawing and creating stuff; either simply on a piece of paper or on the computer.

Since he discovered the possibility of internet, he keeps submitting art online. He usually uploads his work on print on demand websites. Since he started studying graphic arts he has learned many different tools and techniques to use in his personal creations.

We had a short talk with him and this is what we told us.

We would like to know more about you. For example, where are you from? Where do you currently live?

Julien Missaire: I live in Belgium and in 2015 I started a graphic design master in Liège. Since I’ve discovered the website Threadless in 2014, I keep submitting art online. I usually upload my work on print on demand websites with my nickname ; Corsac.

Tell us a little bit about your design background.

Julien Missaire: I don’t think there is any guidelines for what I do. I like many styles and I like to test different techniques. The only thing that I could say is that I like to create patterns, recently I experiment digital drawing with different « famous cars » and now I began a « portrait » collection.

Do you have any design philosophy? Which is it?

Julien Missaire: The only design philosophy I have is to create whatever I want even if the idea I have in mind sounds stupid.

Sum up your personal design style in 3 words.

Julien Missaire: To be honest, I don’t feel like I have any style. I would say that I don’t have my own style but that I like many ones. Maybe in the future I would find one guideline for all my illustrations but if I have to find words to describe my style if would say these 2 terms ; varied and colorful.

What do you want to transmit with your art?

Julien Missaire: I’ve never though of what I could transmit with my art. I started creating drawings long time ago for no reason… That’s still the case. I think that anyone could find something interesting in any artwork, it depends on the person.

From patterns to hipster dressed animals, which one is your favorite?

Julien Missaire: I will say it without any hesitation: pattern. I’m not very proud of what I did 2 years ago with my « hipster » animals… I knew that maybe some people would find it great but now I just try to hide these creations from my portfolio, this is not the sort of thing I want to create right know.
